Mess Mat Large

The BARKMATE Mess Mat is a machine-washable absorbent training pad used on indoor or outdoor living surfaces, to provide your pet with a designated surface to go about its business. The BARKMATE Mess Mat can be used to toilet train your new puppy, or provide your adult dog with a sheltered alternative in the case of confined living (apartments, shelters or kennels) or unsuitable conditions outdoors (bad weather, unfenced yard, rennovations etc).

You simply place the BARKMATE Mess Mat on any flat surface (tiles, floorboards, concrete, carpet etc.), spray on a little Mess Mist Housebreaking Spray and regularly lead your dog to the mat with encouragement. Don't forget to reward your pet every time it uses the mat, because positive reinforcement and habit will make the training period quick and easy for both you and your pet!

The BARKMATE Mess Mat will also save you hundreds of dollars on disposable pads or expensive and bulky 'training boxes', because you can machine wash and tumble dry the Mess Mat every day for a year before it needs replacing. How does the BARKMATE Mess Mat work?
The Mess Mat is a simple three layer combination:

• Polyester Top: The 100% brushed polyester fabric top is soft and comfortable to the touch, while still allowing liquid to soak straight through to the layer underneath.
• Absorbent Middle: The middle absorbent layer consists of 95% polyester and 5% rayon, making it lightweight but still capable of absorbing and holding liquid.
• Polyurethane Bottom: The bottom layer is a breathable, yet completely waterproof, sheet of polyurethane, which prevents the liquid absorbed by the top layers from soaking through to the surface the mat rests on.

How often do I have to clean the Mess Mat?
Some people clean their Mess Mat after every use, while some allow 1-2 days of use before washing. Urine is primarily water and the bulk of it will evaporate from the mat rather quickly. Speaking as not only the manufacturer, but also a user of our own products, we personally recommend having at least two Mess Mats -- so you will always have one on the floor while the other is being washed and dried.

What is Mess Mist Housebreaking Spray?
There are dozens of products on the market that claim to teach your pet where it cannot go to relieve itself, but there are not many that actually teach your pet where it can go. That is until Mess Mist!

There is no rocket science or revolutionary pheromone blends involved in Mess Mist, because we have looked at what actually attracts dogs to certain areas in actual real life -- and the simple answer is; dogs are compelled to urinate by smelling urine! That's why they always seem to pee in the same spots repeatedly, and why they just have to stop and lift their leg on every pole or letterbox on your walks!

No, don't worry, relax...Mess Mist is not urine! But once you remove the 95% water content of urine, you are left with certain salts, oils and chemicals that give urine that distinct smell, and we have included these basic properties in our Mess Mist formula to help attract your dog to relieving themselves in a particular area.

But that's not all we've put in it! We have added natural extracts from grass and plant matter to create a subtle aroma of an outdoors environment. While your older dog may appreciate the consistency of scents when using the Mess Mat as well as the yard, this is actually a great training feature for your new puppy, because you are introducing outdoor scents that your dog will recognise and associate with toilet training -- making the transition to outdoor toilet training much easier on both of you!

Mess Mist Housebreaking Spray doesn't have to be exclusively used with the Mess Mat -- there's no secret synergy between the two products -- you can use it in certain spots outdoors to attract and control your pet's toilet habits, or you may decide not use it at all. But we've included it here, free of charge, because we believe your training will be a lot easier with it than without.
